Janus
January was named for the Roman god Janus, the god with two faces, one looking back and the other forward. He is the god of doorways and gateways, of transitions and new beginnings.
January is the gateway to a new year. It’s traditionally a time to look back and notice what we’ve learned, so we can look forward and make new plans.
January is when we make resolutions to begin new habits and step forward on new paths.
Calliope
Of the nine Greek Muses, Calliope is the “chief of all muses” and specifically the muse of epic poetry and eloquence. It was Calliope who inspired Homer as he wrote his epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey. More recently, Bob Dylan attributed his inspiration to Calliope in his song “Mother of Muses.” I’m sure, even in the Twenty-First Century, she still brings inspiration to creative minds!
My writing practice needs a restart! Does yours? Janus’ month of January is the perfect time to begin anew.
I want to reconnect with the muse! Do you? Let’s call on Calliope together!
“Throw caution to the wind and just do it.” – Carrie Underwood
A Writing Date with the Muse Calliope!
I am hosting a monthly Zoom gathering for writing friends and colleagues on the THIRD TUESDAY of each month in 2022, beginning on January 18, 2022, at 4pm – 5:30 Pacific Time.
I will take inspiration from Judy Reeves’ book A Writer’s Book of Days, using her recommended monthly themes, suggestions, and writing prompts.
You could pick up the book yourself, if you want to expand further on the idea on your own, or simply join me once a month.
January’s theme is Show Up & Get Started
“The willingness to show up changes us. It makes us a little braver each time.” – Brené Brown
RSVP in the comments and I’ll send you the Zoom link.
(If you’d like to invite a writing friend, share this invitation using the share button.)
Need some inspiration right about now! Thanks for including me.
Calliope, be my inspiration!! Love to join you Joan.
