Thank you for bringing back fond memories of Dick, Jane and Spot. They initiated a life-long love of reading. Sister Michael of St. Rita's in Fairfax played basketball with us and made Math enjoyable. I retired from my second career of teaching, mostly 6th graders and really loved it. As a fan of history, I especially loved the Social Studies Curriculum and linking historical fiction to the ancient cultures we studied.

You have early school memories as clear as mine. I bet you were a great teacher and you former students remember you just as clearly!

You just took me back! First grade: reading DICK & JANE in Mrs. Dyson's classroom. Read-aloud for both second and third grade with Mrs. Ryan: magical! CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH...Ahhh...I gobbled up books like nobody's business! And sixth grade: Team teachers - Janie Block and Flo Truitt. The best sixth-grade teachers EVER! So much laughter and joy in learning with those two. And, yes: I became the teacher and hope the same. Hope somehow I have given something good and vital to my students. Many thanks for your post!
