I not only thoroughly enjoyed your first book, I’ve enjoyed getting to know you even more! Looking forward to the birthday party on December 1 and presenting with you in 2025. Thank you for continuing to always be inspirational in all you do! And the comment on the Sierras – I could not agree more! ❤️🥾❤️
Joan, congratulations on the book birthday! It was so fun attending your Book Signing at Wild Eye Pub celebrating with you. I love to hold a book but my Kindle is my go to because it travels well and I don't have to turn on a light in the middle of the night to read myself back to sleep. Looking forward to December 1!
Joan, congrats on your one-year anniversary for "Forces of Nature". I just picked up a hard copy of it (I prefer the full sensory experience of reading printed books) and look forward to reading it before your December 1 event. I am eager to learn more about your next book. My mother, my cousin, and one of my nephews were all adopted and I look forward to reading more about your experience. ~Heidi
I still love turning the pages of a good paperback, but honestly the Kindle is so dang convenient. I got one when I was living overseas and moving a lot and couldn't take all of my books with me every move. So I'd say 95% of my reading is on my Kindle.
And I'm not sure how I found Force of Nature...but I LOVED it. Great storytelling. Great people. Great adventure. Inspirational, for sure.
I only read hard copy, real books. Loved yours! I've done bits and pieces of PCT and JMT. Finally did Mammoth to Yosemite over Donohue. Did Rae Lakes/Glen Pass over 9/11/01. All kinds of magic happens in the Sierra. Loved every moment of your story and so happy for you 4 ladies! I'm 61 and continue to backpack but have to keep getting lighter weight everything lol. Not as easy now as in my 20's. I hope you have continued to explore the Range of Light!
I'm looking forward to celebrating your "Force of Nature" on December 1st. It has a place of honor on my bookshelf! I only wish my husband were still here to read it and recall his beloved Sequoia National Park.
Joan, I love your story about casting your first vote and now being one of the women helping others cast their votes, one at a time. I miss that feeling of going to a Precinct and being with other people and engaging in conversation. The solemnness of that duty, the expectation And anxiety all mixed into one experience. In Washington state, we do mail in ballots; I appreciate the flexibility of being able to read more thoroughly and my conscience, but I do miss being with others In that moment! Thank you for your service!
Thank you, Genet! We all get mail-in ballots here in California, too. But we have the option of sending them in, dropping them off, or the new option of carrying them into the Voting Center and watching as they are scanned in and counted. That's become a very popular choice, and it's going to make counting them all faster, too! Despite all the tension out there, every single person who came in today was friendly and patient and grateful!
My first opportunity to vote via absentee ballot was Nov 1966 - for Pat Brown running for a 3rd term. Placer County was the only county he carried. Reagan won.
It is very touching thanks
Thank you.

I, too, love to hold a book, but out of convenience, I use audiobooks!
See you at the festivities!

I find myself listening to books because of convenience, too!

I love love love that statement, because it is soooo true!
Thank you, Monica, for your kind words, and, yes, the Range of Light is in my backyard and I love every opportunity it get to explore.

Those first voting experiences make me feel nostalgic and proud. You, too, I bet.
