Great recs! Whalebone Theatre was one of my favorites last year and Shelley Read has been by our local bookstore twice to talk about her book Go As a River--takes place just over the pass and down the river from here. Super newsletter as always--you've been busy. Pulling out my straw hat!
Thanks, Cam! Whalebone Theatre has been a bit of a sleeper, but I just loved it! I'm glad others did, too. You came to mind when I was reading Go As A River. I think maybe you recommended it in your newsletter a while ago and that's how it found a place on my list. Straw sunhats are my summer go to now that my skin is "allergic" to UV rays!
I also loved Whalebone Theatre, but haven't heard anyone else mention it in the past year or two. Best book I've read so far this year is The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick, about feminism and the problems of married women in 1963.
Thanks for the recommendation for The Book Club for Troublesome Women! I love the title alone! I'm adding it to my list for sure. My own book club just might want to read that one, too. Glad to hear you're another happy Whalebone Theatre reader. It's been a bit of a sleeper, but it's such a skillfully written story!

And gloves - required for church...
Absolutely! There were times when hats were required attire, too!
